What exactly is Java Script?

Question

I am about to complete the Java course here and I already have full training in Java from my school grades but I am still a really big noob when it comes to programming. So what I want to ask is how exactly does Java Script differ from Java language.
P.S. I use Netbeans IDE for Java related stuff.

a lot. they only share the word "java". the different are functionality, syntax, semantic, framework and more.
