What is the difference between HTML and HTML5.

Of course in terms of coding differences, HTML5 have more elements compared to HTML. but one key difference is : HTML doesn’t allows JavaScript to run in web browser, it runs it in same thread as browser interface but HTML5 allows JavaScript to run in background. Other slight difference is that in HTML, browser cache can be used as temporary storage but for HTML5, application cache, web SQL database, and web storage is used.

There is no difference between HTML and HTML5 at the moment. The HTML5 (to be exact, HTML5.1) is the latest (actual) version of the HTML. When someone talks about HTML, he means the current version of the HTML, i.e. HTML5.
