Antivirus programs do not read over the source code of every program like a book. 😂 What is used is Signature-based detection. Think of this as comparing a file or executable program to a list of pre-defined viruses known to the antivirus itself, and the antivirus compares the scanned program or file to those viruses it is already familiar with. It scans what permissions it may want, publisher, available properties, anything that the antivirus can get its hands onto. Hope this helps!

In order to see the source code of software, it must first be open-source; meaning the source is... well, OPEN! Able to be edited and read! A TON of open-source software can be found on github, and other subsidiaries, i'm not sure about AIM though. Any software that is open-source means the code can be read and changed somehow!
