widgets are additional tools used in websites for different purposes gadget is none in web but yes windows used to have famous gadgets in windows 7 which are closed they are also written in web technolgies like html CSS and J's in a certain way and then packages into a archive to run

A gadget is nothing as far as i know, but could be part of the terminology for yahoo or google or some other site that produces widgets that you can post on your website.
