If you're a pure beginner, you should mess around with beginner stuff not advanced stuff(that can lead to frustration)

Is Minecraft coding beginner stuff, if it is then I'll keep practicing with Mods

Minecraft commands are not java commands. It is good to know the more complex vommands to know how bukkit (the minecraft directed java library) works.
