Is it alright to borrow someone else's code just for a reference to look upon when you run into trouble?

I've ran into some amazing codes that I borrow just as reference material. In the code name I make sure to put "not my code". Is this acceptable?

You should put a complete reference and check the license of the code (there are some restrictive licenses) In that way people can see the original source and author
