How to make a strong portfolio for freelance programming job?

I want to to become a freelance programmer online but i'm confuse what should I present as my portfolio. Any idea?

You'll want to display your skills and what you're capable of doing. So, create some fully functional programs that display the extent of what you know, and make sure it's as polished as you can make it. Provide proper documentation of your program and potentially flow charts that explains it. Remember that people are hiring you because they can't program it themselves, so you want to make sure they understand what you've done - if nothing more, in their head they'll find it more amazing than it may or may not be. That's best place to start. Create the best programs you can so you have something to show off and use to represent your abilities/skills. Best of luck to ya!
