Has anyone turned their hobby of programming into a career?

Have you changed careers from a non-technical field to an occupation which involves intensive programming?

I have, I'd write code even if i dont get paid for it. I think thats how I eventually got a job at it. Now its been 30 years 20 in pascal 10 in C# much of that time ive been a programer but not all. Just keep writing code to make your life easier

Yes you can. If you have Passion in programming, No matter what degree you have you can be a programmer. And if you can make a good program you can sell it to company.

make an app in your free time, publish it and then you may have an extra income with many ways, without even changing career... I built a couple of sites for people i know and i made some money just by doing my hobby..

Yes and yes, and it has led to a very long programming career which led back to being a business manager and a MBA degree (Master's in Business Administration).

since programming is fun, as long as your code can solve problems, if u advertise ur self properly, u will get jobs over time & be paid

that's what I'm working on. Graduated in Microbioligy, been working in labs the last couple years but am self teaching myself programming (doing things like this, codecademy, and free code camp). Hoping to make it a career

I'm in a similar situation. I do clearing for exports through customs but I'm very passionate about code.
