How does any code or post comes in trending ??

Question

I have been on SL for more than 3 months now , but I can't still understand , how does a code or post come in trending . Is that votes , I don't think so because most of the codes or posts with less votes are on the top of trending , and same goes for number of answers . If it is none of the above then on what basis are these chosen , Plz tell me If you know ..🙏🙏🙇🙇

Update: I assumed you were asking about COTD, QOTD my bad
Trending is basically what it suggests if a code or post gets a positive response fast enough like many upvotes, comment's or answers. it will go up the trending page somewhere depending on it's activity. when the response to the code, question slows down. so does the the position goes down.
For COTD, QOTD:
there is most likely a team which selects what makes COTD or question of the day. it is on their decision what makes it to the trending.
Note: it's not random. something interesting makes it to the front page, most of the time.
