Inspiration, a specific problem or trying to make things easy helps if you want to get into programming., but if you really want to create great programs, read from known computer science geniuses like Don Knuth, Edsger Dijkstra, Alan Turing or Leslie Lamport to name a few that created the computerized world we live in.
Look for data structure books, programming methodologies, discrete math, symbolic logic, number theory... There is no replacement for that to become a true programmer. Hope it helps.
