adding to all of what swati mentioned above.. AWS is cloud based service where you can run any application . or virtual machine etc. It has all the capabilities to replace your locally running servers .. it can be used as a infrastructure as a service (when you want to run a virtual machine or use virtual networks online etc. ), platform as a service ( eg. like if you use thier lumberyard tool to make online games which will run on AWS infrastructure ) , SaaS ( eg. if you are using thier simpleAD for identity management and authentication.).. these are just some examples but AWS contains a lot of tools and srvices and is not limited to the explanation i provide above. ..
If you do not have any idea of cloud computing .. start with searching youtube for some basics of cloud computing or basics of AWS . and you will know..
AWS provides a free tier for everyone to try out thier services .. free tier is a limited usage tier where you can try most of their services without being charged. But you need to have a credit card which ahould be attached to your account when you sign up at https://aws.amazon.com .. You will have to be careful if you are going to hit the usage limit on AWS free tier . Because once your free limit is reached and say your virtual machine is still running and consuming AWS resources , it will start getting billed on a per hour basis to your credit card after your free usage limit is over every month. the next month agai n your free credit will be added to account again and your card wont be charged till free usage is exhausted.
This free tier is given to new sign ups on https://aws.amazon.com for a period of one year.
