There are many software development platforms, however most of the good ones actually cost a lot of money. Depending on what you are trying to code and if you have a Gmail, google offers a free software called Editey, which is really nice because its all online so you don't have to worry about losing it and it is easily shared/edited by others, it also color codes everything, adds end tags for you, and neatly organizes your code!
To get it go to Google Drive, then Create New, then "more apps", and search for Editey. There are different versions for different languages.
