How can I keep going when it gets frustrating?

I have a keen interest in cyber security. I want to be a penetration tester. I've read a lot about these. Now I'm learning JScript & other web developing languages. How much of these knowledge is needed for pen testing? And I get often frustrated by learning these security vulnerabilities and seeing that most of them don't work well.. Then my mind diverts from these and I waste a lot of time. What do u suggest to overcome this?

Do you know about how works a network ? If you know, on your virtual Windows, switch of the firewall and try to find vulnerabilities. If you don't, try to learn a bit each day (it is sometimes very abstract and boring but necessary). As Jay said even, if you manage to do something that you think is useless, already done by someone else, ... Be happy, and look at what you've done ! You'll progress 😊

i think that learning the base languages first, then researching the technologies used is the real time sucker. But it is really a better use of your time than messing around with known vulnerbilities on patched systems 😀 Finding vulnerbilities for reals (not just exploiting known ones) is like finding a needle in a haystack but with a whole lot more detective work. Even joining in on the good times on a known vulnerability is only going to last days. You are going to need to have alot of patience and look at failure differently (and be happy with small results) if you want to be successful. Failure is just another way that it didn't work.

In cybersecurity, you need to know a lot of things: many languages (HTML, SQL but also Java...) And the most important : You have to learn how a network work Begin by TCP/IP. You have to know that otherwize, you won't be able to look for vulnerabilities. Cybersecurity is much more than programmation but everybody can do it. What operating system do you use ?
