What does mean general purpose?

is it works in our daily lifes matter?

I believe it means that it can be used for a general range of purposes. meaning that you can make a wide range of programs with it. Unlike something like HTML which is only used for webpages, or ActionScript which is a language that is native specifically to Adobe Flash (I think).
