Engineering with computer science background?

I'm currently enrolled for a civil engineering course, but just discovered my passion for coding, does anyone know if these two combined produce a stable career path? if so can you just gimme examples of people already doing or just what could be done.

A fellow on my data science course is an engineer and he uses his C++ coding skills to program applications to some energy-saving module thingies.

I'am a civil engineer and I use visual programming and a little bit python daily. If you want to compare those two market sectors it a big difference between. As a civil engineer you can work on the situ or in a office. On the situ you don't have where to use code but it's nice. At the end of the day you can see something physical made by you. If you work in a office you can be an expert in many field, starting from manipulate complex geometry made by code (wich the usually software can't make), analize big data,or making computational design. The last one is pretty new. The construction sector is far behind at implementation of the new technology. So if you will be strong in coding and also in engineering side, you will have always something to do. There a lot of things to be implement.

you can search on YouTube about Dynamo and about Grasshopper. These two software are the most used tools for the 'out of box' things in construction design.
