Languages are tools to help you solve problems. Like all tools, they have their strengths and weaknesses. Learn the languages that seem relevant to what you are working on. EVERY position, be it research or programming, that I have had has taught me at least one new language.

That makes me a bit of a swiss army knife, perhaps....

Both are good. Because they both have a place

There is no best language. Only ones that are more suited to a given task than another. Therefore both python and c++ are as good as each other
