If you're gonna stick your head up a fan or lock babies in fridges then no.

It depends on the kind of control that we give the AI, we need to make it delete everything it learns after a short period of time and make sure that it's security is really good.

AI, quoting it's inventor John McCarthy, will never be here because once it starts working, they stop calling it AI. :)
So everything that was AI has been used by both armed forces as well as civilians. AI has brought many good such as navigation, logistics management, theorem provers, and many more to us. Of course once they started working they were called that but they were all AI while in research state in various universities.
