If you love a challenge, I would highly recommend C++. If you can understand the concepts from C++ you would develop the ability to learn any programming concepts quickly.

There's nothing hard starting with the C languages, really. My bet goes to Fortran. That was what my dad used back then when he was in university.

From what I recollect, Fortan was more difficult to learn and was certainly more difficult to use on a mainframe - long forgotten. What is the point of the question​?
