i recommend you to learn html, css, javascript and php in that order, after that, try again the html course

HTML is very simple for beginners. Than HTML learn JavaScript, PHP, CSS OR OTHER PROGRAMMING LANGUEAGE.

I guess the tutorial just mention it for further use. In the playground-area you can try the example they provide, but more knowledge about JavaScript is not needed if you want to complete this course. After the course it's useful to take the CSS and JavaScript course to build a website that does "something". As mentioned in the beginning of the course, html is meant as beginner course, so you don't need other courses before this one.

I know HTML very simple but, the tutorial keep mentioning JavaScript over and over again. It says basic knowledge of JavaScript is required to understand this and that. So should I stop and read basic JavaScript before continuing to the next part?

I think if you know some coding language derived from oops concept ,you can grab that knowledge of JavaScript as it follows simple explanation

for first user HTML,then css or JavaScript,it may be defined on the basis of basic knowledge of learner and then php and again learn HTML.

without javascript knowledge,you can't understand html5's advanced useness well.so you can drop it now and learn it second time after you have stydied javascript .

in (w3schools html) they give you simple lessons named "html css" & "html JavaScript" to make you understand the html5. i really like www.w3schools.com
