What is SDK?

I would like to know what is SDK and where is it used?

Ever seen a medical officer pulling out a first-aid kit to mend wounds caused by an accident in public? That's what you would call a 'kit'. In terms of software development, SDK is a kit which consist of all required tools to develop a software in a specific platform. The Android SDK, for example, includes sample projects with source code, development tools, an emulator, and required libraries to build Android applications.
