Basic concepts or full knowledge?

Ive heard people saying that to move on to any other language (Java) you need to build up your concepts on basic languages.I have a basic c++ concept and I'm on my way to learn Java next month in the University. Is it okay to move on to next language with basic concepts or do I have to first get complete information then move on to other language?

Depends how far your "basics" are. If you realy want to learn somethin new -just do it,its not bad idea... But maybe after you'll start to mess up things between languages if you're not that long in practicing previus...

I agree with @Rose It depends how much you know. If you really have a firm understanding of things like loops ,arrays, methods, OOP. Starting Java won't be all that difficult. It also depends what things you will be going over in the University. Will they start off from the basics? (Is it an introduction course?)

Well we are all aware with loops array pointers structures conditions etc but not with OOP.

Whatever, even if it will be hard for some time or confusing - its not realy bad. You brain will not explode or somethin' , so you can do it.
