A certain percentage of people can be reliably expected to do something resulting in compromise. Why? Research says...they really "just don't care"...no matter how much you train them, etc. Due to this, you want redundant security measures* -- the term is "Defense In Depth". * Recommended lists of steps can be read by the bad guys too.

@Kirk: So true. I have a client like that. Twice hit and still hasnt learnt to backup or update on a regular basis. Still opens those bills from a company they are not even with. oh well. I will keep taking their money to put windows back on for them

@Setiawan Next : I know why Linux is a favorite, and then...Shellshock* I saw it within minutes of release due to a subscription...then protected immediately (good, since it was ~ an hour before I logged the first probe -- to give some idea how important incident response is)... ...which gave me time to watch as it took much of the *nix / OSX world by complete surprise. * and this is not the only one, so I'm just saying...be careful with complacency.

lets consider this. wannacry is one example of zero day exploit. even if you update your windows, if someone in the future weaponize some virus or worm your pc will be victim again because the vulnerability is on windows system. use linux , done.
