How much do programmers earn?

I'm a Computer Science student & aspiring programmer. One thing that has been bugging me is the repeated statements that Programmers have no life & no money.
I understand that the 'no life' part depends on your schedule, but how much does the average programmer earn??

we spend it all on cookies and coffee :) i dunno. depends on skill and location largely I would imagine.

This highly depends on many factors (experience, skill, age, sex, location, employer, etc.). If you are good and experienced you can earn up to over 1 million $ working at Microsoft. Or you can be some code monkey earning minimum wage in some poor world country.

as in any trade your earnings depend on your location, your skills and your attitude.
if you can, check the job offers in your area ( or anywhere you would be ready to move to)
this would give you a good idea of skills required and salaries.
