We actually had a profile whose xp was negative...
Nd he did cross level 2 with xp of -25 or so.. ( a bug maybe)..

if you lose challenges you xp of your score can be substracted .
If your original score is less then the substracted xp the result will be a negative score.

Yes, Moderators discussed on this topic. And they found that XP can also be negative.

When you lose challenge you lose xp. If you lose too much you go negative.
