Specifically, what I'm trying to depict is if its used more for one or the other i.e is it used more for scripting of programming?

Python is a scripting language. The reason for that is because programming languages NEED to be compiled before use; while scripting languages require no compilation whatsoever. edit: honestly after looking seeing this again idk which it is :/

python is a general purpose programming language why? from scientific computing to websites to GUIs python handles that though it can also be used for scripting, remember a script is just a small program
