What do you mean by "hiding VPN traffic" ?
All VPN does is encrypts your traffic when you're connected to the internet.
This is used by businesses when employees have to work remotely, to make sure data is kept secure.
This means that your router connects to VPN server through encrypted connection and if someone gets your traffic they will have to decrypt (opposite of encryption) the traffic, using decryption key.
Taking information from NordVpn website: Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can see the connection but they can't see the content of the traffic and where traffic is going.
I'm not sure whether or not VPNs collect your data, but I think they do, and they also do sell it. Therefore you need to choose good VPN provider.
As stated on the internet, VPN provider can see websites you visit. If website has http protocol VPN providers can see data sent and they can access it. If website has https (secure version of http) they can't see the data sent and therefore can't access it
