It has around 100 million lines of code.!!!!

Because PHP is best for such site.
Facebook uses other languages too for facial recognition in photos, patter recognition in Page icons and for a lot of other stuff.
After google facebook code has the most lines. I don't remember number of lines in code.

umm someone told me site made in php never hang or down on server maybe its true b'coz so many user are on fb simultaneously but the server never show busy , like my colg's website during result announcement
