Actual typing is a small part of being a programmer. There is more time spent creating logic, debugging and testing, and drinking coffee!
A coder needs to accurately use the keyboard, mistakes are not as easily detected as they are in word processing.
Finding a typing mistake in 20 lines of code can sometimes take more time than typing those 20 lines.

Speed shouldn't come at the cost of accuracy when writing code – it is of no use to be fast when you have to re-write 90% because you mistyped. Make use of auto-complete when you can.
