The main implemantation of Python is called CPython because it is coded in C.
It has nothing to do with the version but implemantation language.
CPython more used versions are: 2.x and 3.x
There are other implementations of Python:
Jython -- implementation that runs in the Java Virtual Machine
IronPython -- implementation that runs in .NET
...
But the main implemantation is that we here most people talking about is CPython.
