When to use italics in web design ?

I'm told Italics is reserved for quotation marks and some other bullshit . But I want to use it for all the text on my website . Is it okay or should I look for something else ?

In your website you can do everything you like.
But there are some best practices, and also programs as search engine and screen readers, can figure out that some text marked as <strong> or <em>... have more value than other text. This is usefull for SEO.
Also users will vusualy know what text are important, and find information thay need faster. So using full text italic is not good.
If you like look of italic you may look for some font-family what is similar, and can make you page interesting.
