It depends on your skills and the course you take. There are a lot of free beginner courses for devops, just give them a try.

I didn't take a course but we need DevOps skills at work. At least it is necessary for the developers and the operators to cooperate as good as possible. I cannot decide if it is important for you to participate in a training. That totally depends on what the companies are looking for in your country. Try to find out if there are job offers for DevOps in your region. Maybe that will help you to make a decision.

By going one-step-at-a-time, a fresher must get exposed to the IT operations as well ie deployment, monitoring, maintenance etc. Also, when you join any organization as a fresher, exceptions are he/she learns the concepts of certain tool/technology (say scripting - shell/perl/python etc) and apply them in assignments/projects. So even when a fresher joins “DevOps” team, he/she is expected to do some manual work such as deployment/installation/configuration etc to get better understanding of how things work. Once the person is familiar with his/her roles, then comes the automation part, where you are required to be a “DevOps”.
