For python i personally prefer pycharm because it is the most helpful app in my opinion. But for other languages i would definitely use Visual Studio Code.

A good place to start that I’ve used personally is sublime text with node.js to help run JavaScript. Although I got the pro because it allows just a bit more freedom and opens the door for it to become a better platform later.
But good developers can switch between platforms as needed for personal projects/work.
Another really good one is VScode because its ease of use and error handing capabilities. Aaaaaaand one more good one that I’ve heard good things about is atom. I haven’t really used this one as much but I’ll say that it’s similar in design to VScode. It also has a large developer/engineer presence.

There’s alot of personal bias out there so be warey of what information you listen too! When it comes to unprofessional opinions make sure they aren’t just telling you only their personal stories. A good place to go for more professional opinions is Stackoverflow.com. good stuff there. Hope this helped and happy coding!!

For PC, you can use language specific IDEs as they are optimised and are feature rich for a particular language. VS code is versatile.
For Mac, Xcode is a greatly optimized tool.
But, for smartphone/tablets, online coding is the best option imo.
