While creating websites with pure HTML and CSS, developer usually mixes logic, presentation, and content within the same code. However, this is time consuming and inflexible. For example, after adding additional navigation items or changing the year of copyright in the footer section of the page, developer have to synchronize the changes made in every HTML file. Customers may not be able to manage the content of their websites by themselves, as they would need HTML knowledge to do it. The solution to all the issues listed is a step towards content management system. The CMS may be introduced to control initially an internet site and/or intranet site or a combination of both in an extranet. Content Management makes collaboration easier, enforces design standards, enhances user-interface consistency and reduces confusion & training costs. A CMS is a database which organises and provides access to all types of digital content. CMS vary dramatically in both features and price. There are literally hundreds of providers all offering different systems of varying cost and functionality. The ultimate decision of which solution you choose will need careful consideration. Because a CMS is database-backed, it is not necessary to have a separate physical source file for every page.
