Learning php and css "on the job"?

Is it possible to learn both php and css while I'm cooperating on a website develope? I learned some html basics years ago, but I have the chance to work as web developer only now. I'm actually studying java and I found that php has common things with it (I also had some C++ basics when I was a student). Yeah, maybe it will be only a 3-months contract, but I think it may be a beautiful experience for me. I'm already confident with the control panel, but I know almost nothing about those languages.

my advice, learn the basics of the language (which will take less than a week if you already have experience in other languages) and then learn stuff as the situation arises. eg- if you need to work with the database, learn it at that time. this gives you enough time to learn and get experience at the same time.

Thank you for answering my question. So could it be enough to learn the language basics even through solo learn?
