If its gonna be your first time with arduino I would suggest go with Arduino UNO with that you can do some basic things and small bots as its compatible with many sensors. Also you will get lots of projects and tutorials for Arduino UNO to start with. If you have some experience then go for Arduino MEGA. It has lesser tutorials and projects available on the web so you will have to explore on your own. If you need any help you can ask I might be able to assist as I have done many projects on Arduino and Raspberry PI Am Interested in robotics too.

Think about a Micro:Bit it has some sensor onboard and a LED Matrx. Use C to program it.

For which type of projects u want to create through arduino device open this link you can see different boards model and u can install various program according to your need . You can also use raspberry pi for college projects but it is costly than arduino device. https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Boards#:~:text=The%20Arduino%20BT%20is%20a%20microcontroller%20board%20originally,compatible%20with%20Bluetooth%20headsets%20or%20other%20audio%20devices%29.

I bought back then the elegoo arduino uno set. It has so many things to test almost everything on a basic level. I recommend you to check out C, since you are going to work with embedded systems, especially in robotics area. If you don't want to buy any arduino, there are websites in which you can simulate everything you need for using the arduino. It looks a bit like Microsoft paint, where you can code for arduino and get a first drift into the materia
