is there a way to unsubscribe from discussions

i would like to stop getting notified when someone posts into a discussion i posted in a couple of years ago
i currently have 8,000 messages saying that someone posted into the discussion

Whenever you answer a question, you automatically start following that thread. If you don't want to get notified, you can click on the star present at the lower left corner of the question. The blue star will become white which means you're no longer following that thread and if you want to follow any thread click on that star, the star will be become blue in colour which means you're following that thread and you'll get notified for each and every answer posted in that question or thread.
