Practice, practice, practice. Try finishing a lesson, or a few, then apply what you learned to a project. I think notes could be helpful, but actually putting into practice what you learned will give you a better understanding and also help retain that information.

Just practice, every day, every moment. It doesn't matter if you have a lot of notes if you don't practice
I can tell you my how I do it I see or read about any topic, try to understand it and then try to make a program in which that topic is used and this way I didn't required to remember it.
What is a project? As in write codes and try to create something from it? Like a quadratic calculator?
