Degree, Certificate, Or Self Taught?

My goal is to get into web development and eventually front end development. I've got background in digital marketing and minor web design (using design tools not coding.) I've started self teaching html and css through this app but I'm wondering if I should pursue a degree or a certificate. Or should I just spend the time I would on college or certificate program on practicing code and building a portfolio. Also what job are you currently in and what style of education did you need to get it? he

I am the senior project manager for a US based Web development company. You don't need a degree in this industry but it is definitely worth getting. It will open up a lot more opportunities and make you much more money on average. Yes there are exceptions and everyone has heard of people making truck loads of money without a degree. But it is so much harder. So unless you are some super star programming genius... get a degree.
