What is the difference between the Style attribute and for example the <i> tag

Question

If I wanted to italicize a line of text I could use e.g <i><p> Gold </p></i>
or alternatively I could use
<p style=" font-style : italic ; " > Gold </p>.
Is there a difference? Maybe in the usage? Or is it just Handy to be able to use both to do the same thing

Both works same no compression.

Diffrence is code simplicity in style than in not using style
