From finance to IT

Hi, all. I have too much experience in finance (ifrs, reporting, audit and analysis). I would like to stay in finance, but global trends are in favor of IT knowledges. Could you, advise, how finance specialist could move to it-which jobs to consider, what level of it required (languages, background etc). I would appreciate any advise. Thank you.

Mike Recently a friend of mine who has a finance background, though pretty young when compared to your experience made to a company in UK for a role he was not prepared for since a small part of it has to do with programming. But he has got a little time and is now learning Python with machine learning. Seems like a good deal for anyone from finance since you are still working in your major area where a smaller part is played by the IT tools.

Hello Mike , There will always be a place for a knowledgeable man, my idea (given your description), would be to become finance advisor or consultant. "In favor of IT knowledge" probably is the trend. But we know IT is a tool and/or facility, there are other knowledge bearing similar importance. Take for example a fintech company that uses mobile app to gain customers. There are coders working on the app stuffs, but there are also finance experts working behind the scene, who analyse prospects, design policies to keep the business running, risk management and all other things I don't even know. So what I'm trying to say is, find ways that gets your skills & experience employed. Rather than wasting your years of experience try to offer service for anything finance related. Or make a collaboration project on something (with a coder or some). Where your part is the finance logics, and theirs are the code logics. P.S. I got no finance experience, so if I misunderstood anything, just never mind : )
