Is it worth to learn visual basic ,should I learn it or not .There are other powerful languages but as a beginner should I learn

I really like java but my teacher says that I must have a little bit knowledge about every language so what do I do.My mind is not allowing me to learn visual basic I think it is time wasting and instead of it I must learn the other languages . I am now 17 and I don't want to waste any more time so what should I do?

Well, I have to disagree on the 'time wasting' part. Even if it wouldn't benefit you financially or career wised, learning something is not necessarily a waste of time. Under the circumstances as you mentioned your teacher, IMHO you learn just enough to keep your marks safe and that's it.
I bet you wouldn't believe if I tell you that I see (in vacancy ads) some people/company searches for VB coders still, even though so many people had repetitively declared that it was already "dead".
