Sure, and because of the multiple meanings, I would not rule it out as an option I am thinking of an API designed to properly handle exceptions, for example.

Oh, I cannot concur more and, to be fair, even 2 levels of nested exception handling should have a solid reason to be approved by me in a PR. For the rest, as you mentioned, if you are writing a gaming app with intensive graphic requirements, by all means squeeze each bit you can muster. An accountancy app for internal use? Well, nothing will probably beat reducing the development costs in man-hours.
