Knowing a language has no bearing on being able to use it for a purpose. I used C++ for a voicemail system answering calls, playing prompts, recording voice. Each of these skills took months to learn and implement. Games will be no different. Being a expert in C++ will mean nothing to figuring out making your game. Just like knowing your native language failed to help you with Math class.
