Why lose 30xp in a 1 xp challenge?

Question

I accepted challenge of 1 xp from a level 16 Sololearner and it ended 5:4 but I ended up losing 30xp. Can someone please explain to me how this aspect of sololearn challenge works? This has happened severally when I'm defeated by someone below my level. But level 16? I'm confused!
This is so demoralizing!

The XP system is based on each player's XP on the given weapon (i.e. course), not the overall level.
You can be level 10 with 3000 XP on Python and lose 32 XP against a level 16 with 42 XP.
