u learn 2% from that courses
furrher 2% if u do it a 2nd time.
96% u learn by doing.
This is true for almost EVERY course even at university or college.
the certifiacte counts as much as a certificate created by ur mom.

They are good for learning or revising the basics or some intermediate concepts. The certificates won't be considered too valuable outside the community.

I think these courses are pretty good, despite they are free. The certificates do not have any value at work level, but taking them means that you have reached at least a basic level of the topic, so they are good for beginners. You can learn more advanced things by seeing other's codes in the 'code playground' section.

It is knowledge that's matters in the end.

I almost agreed with Oma Falk. The fact is, a course gives you RESOURCES. The deeper the course, the greater the amount of resources. (There is another topic about college degrees, let that be there)
As Oma stated, the greater learning comes from effort. But effort itself is lost without something to put it on.
Even self taught people actually learn from something, either books or web posts, but there must be some resource to be looked at, understood and then transformed into knowledge.
There is no enlightenment.
The value of the certificate lies between minus zero and plus zero if and only if you take it as an end point. Otherwise, if taken as a single step, its value increases more and more at each new step.
