What language we can use as the back end of a mobile application ?

I've just learned Kotlin (totally beginner) , but are there any other languages that we can use as the back end of a mobile app (android,not ios), except Java ? And another question, is the function of a back end includes the functioning of a mobile app (Like JS for web) ?
