Do we still need 'vendor prefixes' in CSS?

I was studying CSS. A thorough flashed across my mind. The lesson says browsers are updated so there will be no need of vendor prefixes in future. But the Lesson is old, written few years ago. So I had the idea about getting an update on this topic. Please help me if you know and don't down vote my question.

Check a website called caniuse For different CSS property, there is different percentage of backward compatibility. Usually is less than 1% now, if you are for commercial purpose, you need to be backward compatible. If you code for leisure, don't worry about it. Another way is to use a library called prefix free.
