Neither of these disciplines are better than each other.
The question you should ask yourself is which of these is most appealling to your own self.
A Software engineer would say "My way is best.", while a cyber security specialist would say "Not even close. My way is the best."
Both are very interesting disciplines within the IT realm, and they are not mutually exclusive of each other. Having an in depth understanding of one or both (ideally) would benefit a person seeking either career path.
