Cyber Security and Computer Science

Hi everyone! I am a Computer Science major at college, I have no idea on what I want to specialise in, but I have good idea what I want to do. I love ComSci and this it is what I want to major in. My question is: if I want to get Cyber Security certifications, are there specialties of Computer Science that leans towards Cyber Security? I am interested in offensive and defensive aspects, but I think offensive cyber security is more interesting to me so far. Thank you in advance!

I do think computer science should provide you with a good starting point to further educate yourself in cyber security. I’d recommend seeing what the computer science modules at your college will cover - for example my comp sci degree offered two optional security modules in the final year. (This may have differed depending on if I studied elsewhere.) I’d recommend getting in touch with your college’s comp sci department and asking if there are lecturers who specialise in cyber security (so you may have options for a dissertation supervisor) and asking if past students have gotten into the field as well as advice for you on how to specialise into the field whilst majoring in comp sci. There are many resources online if your college doesn’t have anything security related for you. For example I’ve been learning about the OWASP principles in my spare time. All the best with your studies!
