Do I need to know physics in order to program?

In order to enroll in the programming department at a university in my country, it is imperative to write an exam with the obligatory math and language of the country. And the choice of graduate English or physics. I understand why we need English, but why do we need physics?

Depends, if you want to make codes that use physics such as games you'll obviously need it. Math is ofc needed but again it depends on what you want to make. If you make simple stuff, you'll be ok with elementary maths. If you want to make more complicated stuff you'll need more complicated math.

You need physics only if you're trying to simulate the real world. Like colliding particles. Else I don't think you need.

No, let's be honest... you don't need Physics in order to program, not even the basics of it and that's because you're not going to use it unless you write some specific program or any kind of game related stuff. However, if you don't study Physics you will never know why the Earth is not flat and why the people who think so are simply wrong.

Im a physicist and ive not even seen programming course in my country 😂😂 apart from computer science. Ive seen advance real time program dealing with vectors mostly game programming.

I think you need to know the basics, but do not go deep into physics

Physics helps you to set up a way of abstract thinking. How to model a problem, determine the rules the parameters to get a numeric result. It is a bit like functional programming.
